The Big Island Ukulele Guild’s annual exhibit opens with live music and pupu from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center in Hilo. This exhibit, which featured 48 handmade instruments last year, will also feature invitational pieces from woodworkers across Hawaii Island, including furniture, sculpture and turned bowls. The show runs through Oct. 24.
Attendees will chose their favorite ukulele for the People’s Choice Award. Ukulele kanikapila, or jam sessions, are planned from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 18. Guild members will lead ukulele building demonstrations Oct. 11.
