Ali Longo took the ball behind the serving line with the University of Hawaii up 3-2 in the second set. She kept going and going and going, and the senior libero didn’t stop until she had notched a school record.
By then, the Rainbow Wahine were ahead 23-2 and were well on their way to a second mark.
No. 6 UH reeled of 20 straight points on Longo’s serve Friday night to coast past Cal State Fullerton 25-22, 25-5, 25-20 in its Big West opener at Stan Sheriff Center on Oahu.
Freshman Nikki Taylor needed just 30 swings to smash a career-high 20 kills on .567 hitting. Taylor had six kills during the 21-0 run, which helped Hawaii (12-1, 1-0 Big West) set a another school record for fewest points allowed in a set.
Longo needed just one ace to keep her spree going, and she added a match-high 18 digs.
Sophomore Tai Manu-Olevao compiled 10 kills, Emily Hartong finished with six kills and 11 digs and Kalei Adolpho had eight kills and four block assists as UH hit .243.
Manu-Olevao had three kills during the second-set run, while the Titans (7-6, 0-1) made seven attack errors. Fullerton hit -.121 in Game 2 and just .018 for the match.
Leah Best, Alyse Hensley and Bre Moreland had six kills apiece to lead the Titans.
UH’s previous low for points allowed in a set was six by Boise State in 2002.
The Rainbow Wahine host Cal Riverside at 5 p.m. Sunday (OC16).
