Kona Commons has renewed its partnership with Kona Marathon events for 2014. The center has been a partner for the past four years.
Kona Commons is the title sponsor of the annual Aloha Keiki Run held Father’s Day weekend, as well as a major sponsor of the Aloha Friday Run and Kona Marathon and Family Runs in June.

New salon opens in November at resort
Hearts and Stars Salon and Day Spa, a full-service salon for men and women, is slated to open in November at Queens’ MarketPlace at Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Established by Kailua-Kona hairstylist and entrepreneur Jason Harsin, the salon will specialize in high-quality beauty services for hair, skin and nails, in an affordable price range.
Harsin has worked in the beauty business for more than a decade, starting as manager and product designer for celebrity stylist Zac Jenkins at his salon in Venice Beach, Calif. Harsin has also developed his own product line.
Harsin will lead the salon’s team of stylists and aestheticians. All menus and services will be offered in Japanese and English.

The Club observes
25th anniversary
The Club in Kona celebrates its 25th anniversary from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The Club will give away a one-year membership as a benefit for Manaolana, an organization that empowers people with disabilities in Kailua-Kona. The celebration will also include free fitness testing, prizes and a party in the FitZone with group fitness classes. An awards ceremony for long-term and MVP members will be held at 11 a.m.

Kathryne Kent has joined the PA Harris Electric team of solar consultants.

Kona Ohana Dental hires benefits coordinator
Kaliko Garso has been appointed the full-time insurance benefits coordinator at Kona Ohana Dental Inc., the office of Drs. Mark and AnnMarie Muramoto. Her position entails coordinating insurance benefits to maximize patients’ coverage.
The office recently added insurance participation with Cigna, in addition to HDS, HMSA, Aetna and Delta Dental.

Credit union
supports charities
Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union recently presented a check for $15,000 to the Hawaii Island United Way to support programs and initiatives focusing on building a healthier island community. The check represented donations made by staff members.
In celebration of National Community Health Center Week, Aug. 12 to 17, the credit union partnered with West Hawaii Community Health Center’s Give A Smile toothbrush drive. All five branches served as drop-off sites. More than 2,000 youth and adult toothbrushes were collected.
Staff and members also raised $3,506 at American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event. The credit union team placed 10th out of 38 participating teams for most money raised.

workshop offered
Dick Baron, founder of Responsive Management Systems, will lead a one-day workshop designed to improve attendees’ ability to prevent and solve employee work problems and develop effective team collaboration.
The workshop is offered by Hawaii Community College Office of Continuing Education and Training and will be held Oct. 24 in Kona and Oct. 25 in Hilo.

Real Estate Commission meets
Oct. 9 at civic center
The state Real Estate Commission will hold committee meetings Oct. 9 at West Hawaii Civic Center’s Community Meeting Hale. The Laws and Rules Review Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Condominium Review Committee and then the Education Review Committee.
The commission will also hold a specialists’ office for the day while the meetings are in progress and also by appointment.

Sheraton launches guest assistance program
Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay guests are now greeted after check-in by an ambassador of the new Hookipa Service, offered a cold towel and drink.
Vacation services coordinators then confirm activity or event reservations guests may have already made, introduce them to hotel restaurants and cultural activities, provide recommendations of things to do during their vacation and make tour reservations. Hookipa is the Hawaiian word for hospitality.
