Fresno State rallies past Boise State
FRESNO, Calif. – Derek Carr threw for 460 yards and four touchdowns and led the game-winning drive that helped Fresno State avoid a fourth-quarter collapse and snap a seven-game losing streak to Boise State with a 41-40 victory on Friday night.
Josh Quezada capped a 13-play, 87-yard drive with a 1-yard run with 2:14 remaining that put the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 Mountain West) back ahead after they had blown a 15-point lead.
Yankees Pettitte to retire at end of year
NEW YORK – Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte will retire after this season.
The team announced Pettitte’s decision in a news release Friday, hours before opening its final homestand of the season. The 41-year-old left-hander says he has exhausted himself mentally and physically and knows the time is right.
Pettitte initially retired after the 2010 season, but he sat out only one year before returning.
Stenson builds 4-shot lead at East Lake
ATLANTA – Henrik Stenson made three early birdies to seize control at the Tour Championship on Friday.
Stenson quickly expanded his one-shot lead at East Lake with three birdies on the opening four holes and stretched his lead to four shots over Scott with a 4-under 66.
Scott recovered from a rugged start for a 69, while 20-year-old Jordan Spieth had a 67 and was five shots behind.
Tiger Woods played his last five holes in 6-over par for a 71 and was 14 shots out of the lead.
