Korean War Veterans meeting Saturday
Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at Denny’s Restaurant in Kailua-Kona.
Membership is open to anyone who has seen honorable service in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard in Korea between Sept. 3, 1945 and the present, or outside of Korea between June 25, 1950 and Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Wiliwili Festival
is Saturday
The Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative will host the Wiliwili Festival from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School.
The organization will lead three tours in the forest preserve. Guests will see some wiliwili and uhiuhi trees, as well as the group’s restoration areas and nursery. Tours are available at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. They will begin at the festival site and last one hour. Space is limited; early registration is recommended. Tours are free; donations are accepted.
The festival features free interactive demonstrations and activities, a silent auction, workshops, live music and native plant sales.
Workshops include “Edible Landscaping and Permaculture” with Micah Barker at 11 a.m.; “Traditional Uses of Wiliwili: Alaia Boards” with Hualalai Keahuloa at noon; and “Plant Propagation and Growing Techniques” with Christine Young at 1 p.m.

HAM radio enthusiasts to meet Sunday
Kona Amateur Radio Society meets from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach at Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. Members, guests and anyone interested in amateur radio are invited to attend.
A potluck picnic will be held during the meeting; attendees are encouraged to bring a Mediterranean dish to share.

Dance club plans
party, salsa lesson
The Kona Ballroom Dance Club is hosting a public dance party and salsa lesson from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Kona Elks Lodge, 74-5596 Pawai Place. No partner is needed to attend. Chamber plans
health care luncheon
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce will host an educational luncheon regarding changes associated with implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the Hawaii Health Connector exchange program, to be launched Oct. 1. Sponsored by HMAA and HMSA, the luncheon is slated from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
Guest speakers include Tom Matsuda, Affordable Care Act implementation manager with the office of the governor, and Rick Budar, director of marketing and business development with Hawaii Health Connector.
Representatives from HMSA, HMAA and Kaiser Permanente will also share information and answer questions regarding health care options.
