Gladys Tabil

Gladys S. Tabil, 78, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 28, 2013. Born Oct. 16, 1934, on Maui, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for a 9:30 a.m. service. Scattering of ashes will follow.

She is survived by husband, Melanio Tabil Sr. of Kailua-Kona; sons, Mario (Patricia) Tabil of Pahoa, Melanio (Amy) Tabil Jr. of Kona, Wesley (Roxanne) Tabil of Hilo, and Michael (Nicole) Tabil of Kona; daughters, Pamela (Terrence) Cablay of Kona, Clara (Michael) DeMattos of Hilo, Giget (Martin) Esteban, Michelle (Allan) Liftee, and Sabrina Chu all of Kona; brothers, Harold (Katherine) Pabre of Honolulu, Rudy Pabre, and Geno (Fel) Pabre both of Kona, and Fortunato (Moana) Pabre of Pahoa; sister, Shirley Pabre of Kona; 31 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

James Armitage

James “Kimo” Ponimoi Armitage, 87, of Mountain View died Sept. 5, 2013, at Pohai Malama. Born Aug. 2, 1926, in Honolulu, he was a retired ambulance driver for Queen’s Medical Center and the former manager of the Tiki Top in Waikiki, Oahu.

He is survived by sister, Emma Ferreira of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Clyde Jackson

Clyde June Ellis Jackson, of Waikoloa died Sept. 6, 2013, in Waimea. Born June 7, 1921, in Towns, Ga., she was a retired nurse. She volunteered for Seaford Women’s Club, Zion Methodist Church in Seaford, Va., the Garden Club, Senior Center of York, Waikoloa Seniors and National Active Retired Federal Employees.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at her Waikoloa home and also in Seaford, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Hawaii Hospice, Waikoloa Seniors, The Kohala Center, The Kidney Foundation, Waikoloa Elementary School or American Cancer Society.

She is survived by sister, Sue Holt of Crescent City, Fla.; daughter, Donna Brown of Waimea; niece and hanai daughter, Winifred Coffman of Williamsburg, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mary Isabelle Walling, 84, of Volcano died Sept. 9, 2013, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born Aug. 2, 1929, in Oakland, Calif., she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Everett, Wash.

She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Nelson of Volcano, Billie (Leon) Villarrubia of Aracadia, Calif., and Julie (Roy) Pemberton of Everett, Wash.; son, Larry (Becky) Walling of Kalispell, Mont.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Heta Tuifua

Heta Tuifua, 47, of Hilo died Sept. 8, 2013, at home. Born Aug. 20, 1966, in Tongatapu, Tonga, she was a member of First Tongan Assemblies of God.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a noon service.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by parents, Reverend Uili and Reverend Lolita Tuifua of Hilo; brothers, Tau’ese Tuifua, and Pohiva Tuifua both of Tonga, Maki Teli of Texas, and Sateki Tuifua of Hilo; sisters, Tala (Hare) Eteuati of Oahu, Saane (Soane) Vena of Hilo, Ofa (Levale) DeMont of Oahu and Sara Tuifua of Tonga; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth Apolinski

Elizabeth M. Apolinski, 90, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 4, 2013. Born Nov. 23, 1922, in Chicago, she was active in Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW in Chicago and a member of St Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Holualoa for a 2 p.m. service. Burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park.

She is survived by son, John (Linda) Apolinski of Park Ridge, Ill.; daughter, Elizabeth Lee (Randy Lee) of Kailua-Kona; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Ethel Schefers

Ethel Thelma Schefers, 92, of Waimea died Sept. 8, 2013. Born June 12, 1921, in West Virginia, she was retired from a career in property management. She was a member of Kawaihae Bible Fellowship.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by daughter, Cheryl (Tim) Ames of Waimea, and two grandchildren.
