Makaeo cleanup
slated Saturday
A Friends for Fitness-sponsored community cleanup at Old Kona Airport Park’s Makaeo Walking/Jogging Path is slated from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the water fountain entrance. Garden tools, light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold its next book sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. Proceeds from sales support the needs of the Kona libraries, with funding that includes educational and entertainment programs, community summer reading programs, visiting authors, magazine subscriptions, CDs, DVDs and new book purchases.
Volunteers may call 322-0077. Book donations are accepted at the library.
Workshop teaches coffee berry borer management techniques
Farmers will learn current coffee berry borer pest management techniques 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rusty’s Hawaiian Coffee Farm in Pahala.
University of Hawaii orchard crops extension agent Andrea Kawabata will teach management techniques. Coffee farmer Bob Nelson will give a presentation on coffee berry borer survivability in coffee pulp. A question-and-answer session and field walk-through will follow a potluck barbecue lunch.

Beth Moore to
speak via simulcast
Beth Moore will speak at 9 a.m. Saturday, via a live simulcast broadcast at Waikoloa Baptist Church. The event, for women, as well as girls in middle and high school, runs until 4:30 p.m. General admission is $5, which includes a listening guide, snacks, drinks and lunch.
Moore has written dozens of Bible studies, books and devotionals specifically for women. Moore’s Living Proof Ministries is based out of Houston. Travis Cottrell, worship pastor of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Tenn., will lead worship for the event.
Child care will not be provided; a cry room will be available for nursing moms.
