Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Japanese language program recently hosted 12 students and three teachers from Nago City, Okinawa prefecture, Japan.

Takeshi Hiruma, HPA middle school Japanese language teacher, coordinated the visit. The group was on the Big Island for three weeks as part of the Nago Study Abroad Program 2013.

The Okinawan government, which sponsors the program, selected students from six junior high schools to participate in the English language learning program. The students shared information about Okinawa and HPA students shared information about Hawaii Island. The group also went on a scavenger hunt and played games. The visit ended with a lesson in Okinawan dance.
