38-year-old Calif. man dies in Maui pool

HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK, Maui — Authorities say a 38-year-old California man has died after he ended up submerged in a pool in Haleakala National Park.

Maui County police say firefighters pulled Rajeesh Padmanabhan from the Seven Sacred Pools, a popular hiking site in Kipahulu, on Friday afternoon.

Lt. William Juan says Padmanabhan was found to be unresponsive and emergency responders attempted CPR.

He was declared dead a short time later.

Padmanabhan was visiting from San Ramon, Calif.

Honolulu officer injured while breaking up fight

HONOLULU — A Honolulu police officer has been injured while trying to break up a fight where two men were stabbed.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the 51-year-old officer was struck in the head with an unknown object Saturday night.

Emergency Medical Services report he was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police say the officer was trying to disperse a crowd of about 50 people.

EMS said the two men who were stabbed were in stable condition.

Police were searching for suspects who assaulted the officer and stabbed the men.
