Robinson shines
in Broncos’ loss

DENVER — Ryan Lindley threw for two touchdowns for Arizona (3-1) in a 32-24 victory over Denver Thursday.

Now, this summer’s trendy Super Bowl pick heads into next week’s NFL Kickoff against defending champion Baltimore after losing both of its “Doom & Gloom” pass-rush partners. Elvis Dumervil went to the Ravens in free agency after a fax foul-up, and Von Miller will begin serving a six-game suspension.

Together, they accounted for 29½ of Denver’s league-leading 52 sacks last season.

How the Broncos (2-2) make up for their absences will go a long way in determining if Miller’s Super Bowl guarantee he made back in February was bold or blather.

Gerell Robinson caught five passes for 99 yards, including a 25-yard TD pass from rookie Zac Dysert for Denver.

Pryor struggles in Oakland loss to Seattle

SEATTLE — Tarvaris Jackson led Seattle on three first-half scoring drives, and Terrelle Pryor struggled through his worst performance of the preseason in a 22-6 loss Thursday with a chance at earning Oakland’s starting quarterback job.

Jackson led the Seahawks (4-0) to a trio of field goals from Steven Hauschka, including kicks of 51 and 56 yards. Jackson got the bulk of time in the first half after Russell Wilson made a brief cameo, leading the Seahawks to their first touchdown on their opening drive.

Hauschka also hit from 22, 43 and 53 yards.

Pryor had turned the Raiders’ quarterback situation into a real competition with his performance during the preseason. Matt Flynn sat out Thursday with a sore elbow, and Pryor was given an entire half to try and show he deserved the job. He was lackluster, completing 3 of 8 passes for 31 yards and an interception for Oakland (1-3).

Kaepernick throws TD pass in 49ers’ 41-6 win

SAN DIEGO — Colin Kaepernick threw a touchdown pass to cap his only drive, and San Francisco roughed up San Diego 41-6 in the exhibition finale for both teams Thursday.

Kaepernick faked an inside handoff and then threw a short sidearm pass to Quinton Patton, who deked rookie free agent Marcus Cromartie and completed the 43-yard scoring play.

Coach Jim Harbaugh started the first-team offense of the 49ers (3-1), while Chargers rookie coach Mike McCoy sat his first-team defense.

The Chargers (1-3) had a bad night. Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst was sacked four times in the first half and third-stringer Brad Sorensen threw two interceptions in the second half.

San Francisco linebacker Cam Johnson sacked Whitehurst twice and blocked a punt by Mike Scifres and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown late in the third quarter.

Tebow throws 2 TDs as Patriots beat Giants

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —If that was Tim Tebow’s last play for the New England Patriots, it was one of his best.

Trying to the very end to secure his roster spot, Tebow threw his second touchdown pass with six seconds left and the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants 28-20 on Thursday night in the final preseason game for both teams.

Now it’s up to coach Bill Belichick to decide if Tebow’s work from the day he joined the Patriots on June 11 to the moment he walked off the field after his perfectly-placed, 9-yard fade toss to Quentin Sims was enough to keep him.

Tebow’s “not sure” if his performance helped his chances but he didn’t plan to worry before teams cut their rosters to the regular-season limit of 53 by 6 p.m. EDT Saturday.

His plans?

“Go to sleep when I get home, wake up, come work out, watch the film,” he said. “See what I did good, see what I did bad, try to learn from it and get better.”

Belichick wouldn’t tip his hand despite being peppered with questions at his post-game news conference.

Clowney, 6th-ranked Gamecocks win 27-10

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Mike Davis ran 75 yards for a touchdown, Connor Shaw and Dylan Thompson each threw long scoring passes and All-American Jadeveon Clowney helped No. 6 South Carolina’s defense hold North Carolina to its lowest point total under coach Larry Fedora in a 27-10 victory Thursday night.

The game was delayed nearly two hours in the fourth quarter by rain. The Gamecocks were already in control by that then.

Clowney did not have a sack and finished with three first-half tackles.

The Tar Heels’ fast-paced offense wore him down and forced him to the sideline for several pit stops, yet he and the defense mostly hemmed in North Carolina. Shaw and Thompson put South Carolina up 17-0 in the opening quarter.

Shaw found Shaq Roland for a 65-yard touchdown on the game’s third play.

Thompson threw a 29-yard TD to Kane Whitehurst later in the quarter.
