Russel “Lukela” David Sr. 81, of Ho‘okena, South Kona, died July 15 at Castle Medical Center. Born March 2, 1932 in Ho‘okena, he retired as a Navy PWC bus driver at Ford Island for the federal government.
Visitation will begin 9 a.m. July 27 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau and funeral service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at the Keei Saints Family cemetery. The family requests casual attire worn.
He is survived by his sons, Russel (Maile) David, II of Ho‘okena, Freeman David of Honolulu; daughters, Sheila David of Waimanalo, Oahu, and Shirley Ann (Robert) Abad of Ho‘okena; sister, Primrose Medeiros of Honomu; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph Kauhaihao
Joseph “Duke” Kainakuawalu Kauhaihao Sr., 81, Captain Cook died July 20 at his residence. Born March 30, 1932, in Honolulu, he was a heavy equipment operator for J.M. Tanaka and Isemoto Construction Co., a member of Operating Engineers Local Union #3 and a U.S. Army veteran.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 27 at Lanakila Congregational Church in Kainaliu for a 9 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire worn.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph Kauhaihao Jr. of Kailua-Kona, Randy (Katharine) Kauhaihao of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Melani (Victor) Kauhaihao-Murillo of Las Vegas, Nev., Jonnie (Eliseo) Kauhaihao Flores of Shakopee, Minn., and Trina (Melecio Sanchez) Kauhaihao of Captain Cook; sisters, Margaret (Andres) Guillermo and Emily Kauhaihao, both of Captain Cook; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Toshio Serizawa
Toshio Serizawa, 97, of Keaau died July 14 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born May 26, 1916, in Holualoa, Kona, he was a former Hawaii State Legislator, district manager for Hawaiian Airlines, state agricultural coordinator, and manager for Naniloa Hotel.
Private services were held.
He is survived by wife, Yoko Serizawa, of Keaau; son, Michael (Elaine) Serizawa, of Lihue, Kauai; daughters, Sarah (Joseph) Ferreira and Mae (Clifford) Narimatsu, both of Hilo; brother, Akio Serizawa, of Honolulu; nephew, Eric Sakaguchi; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
