Firefighters are working on a brush fire on Hulikoa Drive in Kailua-Kona that’s burned about 100 acres.

Firefighters are working on a brush fire on Hulikoa Drive in Kailua-Kona that’s burned about 100 acres.

Fire officials have ordered evacuations for the nearby Lokahi Makai Apartments and an evacuation center is open at the West Hawaii Civic Center, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense. Hulikoa Drive is currently closed.

The fast-moving fire was reportedly heading mauka, north and toward the bottom of the Kona Palisades Estates subdivision. No structures are threatened at this time, authorities reported.

There are 16 units on the scene and choppers are performing aerial water drops, as well as two bulldozers are on the way to cut fire breaks.
