Community work day slated for Waimea trail
A community work day is slated from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Ke Ala Kahawai O Waimea.
Volunteers will meet at Ulu Laau, the Waimea Nature Park, and join the crew in spreading wood chips and doing other maintenance chores.
Ke Ala Kahawai O Waimea follows the Waikoloa stream through town for 1.04 miles. The trail surface is packed dirt and wood chips. Future improvements call for a paved tread.

Afternoon at Hulihee planned Sunday
The Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins present Afternoon at Hulihee at 4 p.m. Sunday to remember John Adams Kuakini. Part of a series of monthly events held on the Hulihee Palace grounds, the program features entertainment by the Merrie Monarchs and Kumu Hula Etua Lopes and his Halau Na Pua Ui O Hawaii.
Admission is free; donations are accepted. Bring a beach mat or chair as seating is not provided.

Dance party
slated Sunday
The Kona Dancers will present a short lesson and dancing from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kona Elks Lodge. The public is invited to join the party; no partner is required to attend. Pupu are welcomed and will be served. A $5 donation is requested at the door.

Midwifery film screenings, discussion slated
“Guerrilla Midwife,” a film about Robin Lim, will be screened at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tutu’s House in Waimea. A midwifery talk story round table discussion will follow the presentation.
The film will also be shown at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Kohala Library in Kapaau.
Kokua Kailua slated Sunday
Historic Kailua Village’s Kokua Kailua is slated from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, along Alii Drive — a pedestrian-only walkway during the monthly event.
Vendors line Alii, as visitors peruse their wares and explore the village’s interesting and unique stores and restaurants. Free entertainment begins at 4 p.m. on the Hulihee Palace lawn.
The next Kokua Kailua is planned Aug. 18.
Radio enthusiasts meeting Sunday
The Kona Amateur Radio Society will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the south end of Wawaloli Beach Park at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority.
Members, friends and those interested in amateur radio are invited. A potluck picnic will be held during the meeting; attendees are encouraged to bring an American food dish to share. KARS holds regular meetings on the third Sunday of the month.
