She is survived by son, Stephen (Ana Douglass) Lafer; and daughters, Wendy Lafer and Marla (Peter Krottje) Lafer, both of Kapaau.

Paradise Newland
Paradise “Star” Newland, 65, of Keaau, died July 13, 2013, in Honolulu. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she was a dolphin researcher, gentle birthing advocate and language sculpting proponent.
She is survived by sons, Tiger Stanley and John Kehena Lucy; granddaughter, Violet Stanley; siblings, Rob, Ray and Jackie and seven nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at 3 p.m. July 23 at Carlsmith Beach Park in Hilo for a celebration of life, potluck and blessing. Marsha Marie Leopoldino, 47, of Hilo, died July 11, 2013, at her home. Born January 12, 1966, in Hilo, she worked for Atebara’s and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Born March 31, 1920, in Hilo, he was a retired H.T.&T. crane operator and member of Hilo Kobukan Kendo Club, Hawaii Kendo Federation, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Japanese Community Association, and Komohana Kumiai.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. July 25 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

Rosalind “Coach Tubs” “Aunty Mama” Leialoha Mei Sui Lan Palakiko, 54, of Kailua-Kona, died June 17, 2013 at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 24, 1958, in Nanakuli, Oahu, she was an overnight stocker at Walmart and a campus security officer and volleyball coach at Nanakuli Intermediate and High schools.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 27 at Otec Beach in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by brothers, Clayton Palakiko of Nanakuli, Oahu and Fenton (Terena) Palakiko of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Elizabeth (Samuel) Kalama of Nanakuli, Oahu, April (Richard) Julius of Kailua-Kona, Sybil (Jeffrey) Kanae, and Georgian Palakiko of Nanakuli, Oahu, Chanel Palakiko and Dee Palakiko of Kailua-Kona, Debra Palakiko of Kapolei, Oahu, Mavis Palakiko of Pearl City, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert E. Barry, 85, of Ocean View, died July 15, 2013. Born March 17, 1928, in Bellingham, Wash., he was a World War II Navy veteran and an aerospace engineer.
He is survived by wife, Patti Barry of Ocean View; sons, Jeff Barry of Santa Barbara, Calif., Ron Barry of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Bill Joyce of Ocean View; daughters, Pamela Johnson of Kirkland, Wash., Margaret Barry of Chico, Calif.; Tandi Kowalski of Honolulu, and Nicole Wagstaff-Gasmen of Kihei, Maui; brother, Donald Barry of Redding, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two nieces and nephews.

Born March 8, 1932, in Honaunau she was the first bartendress at the former Kona Inn Hotel, a Liberty House store model, and member of Lea Lea Women’s Golf club, WIBC Bowling League, and the former Kona Inn Tennis and Keauhou Beach Tennis clubs.
