The West Hawaii Fisheries Council will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Kona Community Cultural and Education Foundation at Keauhou Bay.
The council will hold an open house for present and potential members to talk about the workings of the council and to invite stakeholders to join this conservation effort. The council’s mission is to manage fishery activities to ensure sustainability; develop management plans for minimizing resource depletion; and provide for community involvement in resource management decisions.
Council membership is open to anyone interested in West Hawaii fishery and nearshore resources and who represents a stakeholder group.
The foundation’s headquarters is located on the left hand side of Kaleiopapa Street, just past the Sheraton Kona Bay Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay.

Maunakea Skies presentation is Friday
Rachel Rampy, a W.M. Keck Observatory Adaptive Optics team member, will present “Laser Guide Stars for Adaptive Optics” at the Maunakea Skies program slated for 7 p.m. Friday at Imiloa Astronomy Center.
Rampy will explain how astronomers benefit from creating artificial stars. She will provide an overview of how adaptive optics technology functions, and describe how it is enhanced by the use of laser beacons. Rampy will also discuss current and future laser systems on Maunakea.
Host Peter Michaud will provide observational highlights of the current night sky over Hawaii, pointing out prominent constellations and stars.

‘Cartwheel-A-Thon’ slated Saturday
