Yasin was formally educated at the Burnley Commercial Art School, later The Seattle Art Institute. Her fine arts teacher, Bill Cummings, encouraged Yasin to pursue what really captured her imagination, her love of painting. Yasin paints with gouache, an opaque watercolor, in vivid colors to render scenes, people and animals that capture light, intensity and feeling.
Rochkovsky has for about six years been the coordinator of the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters, which paints on-site at locations from Honaunau to Kawaihae every Friday. He is the instructor for Painting Out There, a plein air workshop group, with demonstrations in watercolor, oil and mixed media.
Culbertson came to Hawaii in 1989 and took classes in watercolors, acrylics and dye on silk. She joined the Kailua Village Artists and the West Hawaii Arts Guild in the early ’90s. During the past three years, Culbertson has immersed herself in painting watercolors and continues to expand her “Anuenue (Rainbow) Series.”
