Robert Kaiwa Punihaole Sr., 90, of Kalaoa died June 20, 2013. Born Feb. 10, 1923, in Kaukaweli, North Kona, he was a Hawaiian cultural adviser at Kukio, a supervisor for Kona Shield Pacific, a heavy equipment mechanic for Volcanite; associate director of soil and water conservation of the North and South Kona Districts; past president of the Kona Lions Club; past commander of the American Legion; member of the Keopu Kumiai and the Kona Young Farmers and World War II Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 20 at Kaupulehu Beach Club, located next to the Four Seasons at Hualalai, for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei are welcomeCall Cindi Punihaole at 895-1010 for more information.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Terry) Punihaole Jr., of Manassas, Va., Clayton (Pam) Punihaole of Kalaoa; daughter, Cynthia Punihaole of Kalaoa; half sister, Rose Miyamoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
