The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery’s featured artist for July will be Teresea Boswell, who creates pottery and with beach items makes objects, such as lamps and candle holders using sand, shells and sea glass.
Boswell enjoyed exploring her creative side since she was a child, she said, and with her parents’ encouragement, she tried new mediums — art classes being her favorite — and learned to appreciate the beauty in nature. Boswell worked in floral design for many years. While raising her children, she did wedding work out of her home, and created art projects for her children’s classes.
She was reintroduced to pottery when she and her daughter took a class together and since then has been working with clay and other earthly treasures, such as sand, shells, sea glass and recycled crushed glass. Her work portrays the natural beauty of the islands, she said and she loves the big leaves that she transforms into platters and plates by pressing them into the clay in her work in pottery and sand art objects. Her work can be seen at many shops on the island.
Boswell founded The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in late 2009 and ran it showing the work of local artists and crafters, along with her own. In May of this year, the gallery was turned into a cooperative gallery, run and managed by its artist members.
The gallery will host a reception for Boswell from 1 to 4 p.m. July 13. The gallery is located in the Kona International Market 74-5533 Luhia St. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 329-8000.
