Between June 24 and Sunday, police arrested 23 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were younger than 21.

Between June 24 and Sunday, police arrested 23 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were younger than 21.

So far this year, there have been 628 DUI arrests compared with 694 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.5 percent. There have been 673 major accidents so far this year compared with 735 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.4 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared with 14 during the same period last year, an increase of 28.6 percent.

To date, one fatality was related to drugs only, one to alcohol only and two were a combination of both.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
