Katsuko “Helen” Otani, 97, of Hilo died June 10, 2013, at her residence. Born Aug. 8, 1915, in Puunene, Maui, she was retired papaya picker for the former Mr. Papaya Co. and member of Hilo Hooganji Mission, “Club 50” Seniors Bowling League and Kaumana Mauka Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary offerings.

She is survived by son, George (Lei) Otani of Hilo; daughter, Pearl Yoshie Lueftner of Hilo; brothers, Robert (Jean) Ishihara and Richard (Michiko) Ishihara, both of Oahu; sisters, Thelma Botelho, Lillian Ho and Sue Tanabe, all of Oahu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
