Police arrested 11 drivers for suspected drunken driving between June 17 and Sunday; two were involved in traffic accidents; one was younger than 21.

Police arrested 11 drivers for suspected drunken driving between June 17 and Sunday; two were involved in traffic accidents; one was younger than 21.

Police have made 605 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 673 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Kona officers arrested five motorists and South Hilo officers arrested three, according to police. South Kohala officers arrested two motorists in their district while Puna officers arrested one.

There have been 651 major accidents this year compared with 706 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 14 at this time in 2012. To date, one fatality was related to drugs; one to alcohol and two to a combination of alcohol and drugs.
