Kamehameha Schools West Hawaii Alumni Association’s second annual “Alumni Helping Alumni” Business Showcase and general meeting, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.
Anyone interested in serving on the alumni association board should contact Sharon Goodman at at 895-1817 by July 7.
Fireworks permits
on sale at Pinky’s
Fire Chief Darren Rosario has announced fireworks permits for the Fourth of July celebration will be issued beginning Saturday at Pinky’s store in Papaikou. For more information, call 964-5858.
Each permit costs $25 and will entitle the holder to purchase up to 5,000 individual firecrackers. Permits will be issued to individuals ages 18 or older and are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Permits are not required for novelties and paperless firecrackers.
Fireworks sales begin Saturday and end at 8 p.m. July 4.
The ban of consumer fireworks on Oahu does not affect Hawaii County. Firecrackers (with a valid permit), and consumer fireworks are allowed to be set off from 1 to 9 p.m. July 4 only.
It is unlawful to buy, sell, possess or set off any aerial luminary device such as sky lanterns and Hawaii lanterns. Any person in possession of any aerial luminary device, who would like to dispose of it with amnesty, can contact the Fire Department at 932-2912.
Flutist to conduct workshop Saturday
Shakuhachi flutist and grand master Riley Lee will conduct a workshop titled “Breathe” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Kokolulu Farm and Blue Sky retreats in Hawi. The fee is $35; enrollment is limited.

Waimea thrift
shop planning sale
Waimea Elementary School Thrift Shop is bursting at the seams with community donations. The shop will hold a “Dollar-Or-Less Container Clearance Sale” from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
All items have been carefully sorted to be sure they are new or in gently used condition. The sale will feature an array of items, including a selection of keiki and adult clothing for school, work and play. This includes elementary school uniform T-shirts and name brand jackets.
The shop is tucked in the back of Waimea Elementary and Middle Schools’ combined campus — near the post office entry to the school. It is best to park behind — or south of — Waimea post office in the gravel lot and walk in.
During the Saturday sale, the regular thrift shop also will be open. The shop is regularly open from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Konawaena Class planning reunion
The Konawaena Class of 1963 is celebrating its 50th reunion on Aug. 16 and 17 at the Royal Kona Resort on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.
Anyone who has not responded to the class invitations has until Sunday to respond.

Organ concert scheduled for Sunday
Kohala Mission School will present a free concert by organist Gillian Flack performing classical and sacred music from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kohala Seventh-day Adventist Church. Refreshments will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. in the school dining room.
A free-will offering will be taken during intermission to benefit the school.
