The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District, in coordination with the state Department of Health and various Hawaii County safety and law enforcement agencies, successfully investigated for ordnance June 17 at the Sandalwood Subdivision area along Kawaihae Road in Waimea.
No major incidents occurred. Work will continue today and June 19 within the Sandalwood Subdivision area and is not expected to affect traffic on Kawaihae Road, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.
Officials encouraged the public to remember the three Rs of unexploded ordnance safety: Recognize, Retreat, and Report. Recognize suspicious items and remember their locations. Retreat without touching or going near them. Report, call 911 and report what you saw.
