The Kona Shrine Club meets for lunch at 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday at Lulu’s restaurant on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Attendees discuss upcoming Shrine events. All Shriners are invited to attend.
Prostate cancer group meets Wednesday
The Prostate Cancer Information and Support group meets at noon Wednesday at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel pool bar. Newly diagnosed and prostate cancer survivors are welcome to attend the group’s regular meetings held the third Wednesday of the month.
Annual fishing, boating association meeting slated Wednesday
The Hawaii Fishing and Boating Association’s annual general meeting is slated from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Clubhouse, Honokohau Harbor. Association members inform the community of Department of Natural Resources rule changes, lobby for harbor facility improvements and resist arbitrary rate increases and new fees. Cancer support group meets Thursday
Cancer support group You’ll Never Walk Alone meets from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Cancer survivors and co-survivors are invited to attend. Free meetings are held the first and third Thursday of the month; light refreshments are served.

NHEC to fill vacancies
The Native Hawaiian Education Council is seeking individuals interested in developing and perpetuating excellence in Native Hawaiian education to serve on the council.
NHEC was established by the Native Hawaiian Education Act to assess the extent to which education programs meet the needs of Native Hawaiians; to coordinate educational services to Native Hawaiians; and to report and recommend to federal, state and local agencies about resources to address Native Hawaiian educational needs.
Applicants from all islands, young adults to kupuna, are needed to fill four vacancies on the 21-member volunteer council. Email nhec@nhec.org for an application form; applications are due Thursday.
Chamber to install new officers
World-renowned, record-setting mountaineer and professional motivational speaker Gary Guller is the guest speaker for the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce installation banquet.
The community is invited to celebrate the installation of its new officers and directors for 2012-13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 28 at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. Also on tap is presentation of the chambers’s Pualu Awards that honor outstanding individuals, businesses and nonprofits for dedication and hard work in the West Hawaii community.
In addition, the 2013 Hawaii Island Small Business Administration award winners will be recognized. A free Business Expo will take place one hour prior to and following the luncheon and the chamber will share what it has accomplished during the past fiscal year and what it is eyeing for the future.
Guller made history in 2003 when leading the largest ever cross-disability group to reach Mt. Everest Base Camp, at 17,500 feet. After setting this record, the alpine climber went on to scale the peak, reaching the summit on May 23, and becoming the first person with one arm to achieve this feat.
Admission for the luncheon is $55 for chamber members and $65 for nonmembers.
