Police arrested 15 drivers for suspected drunken driving between June 3 and Monday; five were involved in traffic accidents; one was younger than 21.

Police arrested 15 drivers for suspected drunken driving between June 3 and Monday; five were involved in traffic accidents; one was younger than 21.

Police have made 570 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 630 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Kona officers arrested seven motorists and South Hilo officers arrested six, according to police. Puna and South Kohala officers arrested one motorist in each district.

There have been 618 major accidents this year compared with 673 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been 17 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 14 at this time in 2012. To date, one fatality was related to drugs; one to alcohol and two to a combination of alcohol and drugs.
