McQuaid’s goal sends Bruins to Stanley Cup finals
BOSTON — Adam McQuaid scored early in the third period, Tuukka Rask posted his second shutout of the series, and the Boston Bruins swept their way to the Stanley Cup finals with a 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night.
The Bruins won the Eastern Conference finals 4-0 and held the high-scoring Penguins to just two goals in the stunning sweep.
Boston will face either the Chicago Blackhawks or Los Angeles Kings when the Bruins shoot for their second Stanley Cup title in three years.
Chicago leads that series 3-1 and can advance to the finals with a home win on Saturday night.
The Penguins’ season ended swiftly and shockingly as the NHL’s highest scoring team got zero points in the series from offensive stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
McQuaid scored at 5:01 of the final period on a 45-foot slap shot from the right over the glove of goalie Tomas Vokoun.

Hudson re-tears elbow ligament
PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Daniel Hudson has re-torn the ligament in his right elbow, and the team says its staff is exploring all medical options.
That potentially includes a second Tommy John reconstructive surgery.
Hudson had his first such surgery last July and had progressed to the point of making a rehab start Tuesday for Double-A Mobile. But he left the mound after feeling stiffness in the elbow, and the subsequent exam in Phoenix uncovered the second tear.
Two seasons ago, Hudson was 16-12 with a 3.49 ERA. Last season, he struggled to a 3-2 mark with a 7.35 ERA before the elbow injury was discovered.
Browns’ Gordon suspended for
two games
Receiver Josh Gordon was suspended without pay for the first two games next season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the second year in a row that the Cleveland Browns will be missing a key player because of a drug-related punishment.
Gordon also was fined two additional game checks on Friday. He’ll miss games against the Dolphins and defending Super Bowl-champion Ravens, and is eligible to return for a game against the Vikings.
Gordon said in a statement that he used cough medicine containing codeine — a banned substance — while recovering from strep throat in February. The league could have given him a four-game suspension.
Gordon caught 50 passes as a rookie last season, developing into the Browns’ best deep threat. He led the team with 805 yards receiving and five touchdowns.

Ahmad Bradshaw talking with Colts
INDIANAPOLIS — Ahmad Bradshaw may be getting closer to finding a new job.
The former New York Giants star and unrestricted free agent visited the Indianapolis Colts’ team complex Thursday and was still negotiating with the team Friday, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no deal had yet been reached.
Adding the 27-year-old Bradshaw would give the Colts depth in the backfield, if not a starter.
The three top contenders for now are former first-round pick Donald Brown, who has been injury prone; Vick Ballard, who impressed last season as a rookie; and third-year back Delone Carter, who has struggled with injuries and fumbles.
Speedy recovery expected after Kelly has surgery
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Doctors anticipate Jim Kelly will have a “successful outcome” after the Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback had surgery to remove cancer from his upper jaw on Friday.
“The surgery went very well,” according to a news release issued by Buffalo’s Erie County Medical Center. “We are hopeful for and anticipate a speedy recovery and successful outcome.”
The release was issued just before noon, shortly after the operation was completed by Thom Loree, the hospital’s director of head and neck surgery department, and two colleagues.
During the operation, doctors said they removed part of Kelly’s jawbone, where the squamous cell carcinoma was found and caused by “chronic irritation at the gum site.” Doctors then reconstructed the affected area.

LAS VEGAS — Police in Las Vegas won’t seek criminal charges against former major league slugger Jose Canseco after an investigation of a woman’s rape claim, a department spokesman said Friday.
Officer Jose Hernandez called the case closed.
Canseco, 48, who went public about the investigation May 22 with postings on Twitter, told The Associated Press that he was victimized by the allegation, and he wants to sue his accuser.
“She alleged I drugged her and raped her,” Canseco said in a telephone interview. “It was an outright lie. I proved it by taking two lie detector tests. I am the victim here.”
Wang released by Yanks, plans deal with Blue Jays
NEW YORK — Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang opted out of his minor league contract with the New York Yankees and plans to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Wang signed with the Yankees on March 23, and the 33-year-old right-hander was 4-4 with a 2.33 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre. New York released him Friday.
He originally signed with the Yankees in 2000 and went 55-26 in five seasons. Wang has been slowed by injuries since then, starting when he injured his foot in 2008.
Wang was 2-6 with a 6.68 ERA in 10 games last year in his third season with Washington.
Stanford’s Carter sets college 400 hurdle mark
EUGENE, Ore. — Stanford junior Kori Carter won the 400-meter hurdles in a collegiate-record 53:21 seconds Friday in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships.
Carter broke the mark of 53.54 set by UCLA’s Sheena Johnson at the NCAA outdoor championships in 2004. It was the fastest time in the world this season.
Carter bested rival Georganne Moline of Arizona, who finished second in 53.72 in sunny conditions at Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Brad Evans scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, giving the U.S. a thrilling 2-1 win over Jamaica at Kingston on Friday night that solidified the Americans’ chances of qualifying for next year’s World Cup.
Jozy Altidore put the Americans ahead in the 30th minute, but Jermaine Beckford tied the score off a free kick in the 89th as the U.S. again failed to hold a lead on the road.
Just over a minute into four minutes of stoppage time, Michael Bradley quickly played a corner kick to Graham Zusi, who gave the ball right back. Bradley faked around Alvas Powell and slid a shot to an Evans.
With three Jamaicans about 5 yards from him, Evans spun and beat goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts from about 10 yards. It was the first international goal for Evans, starting at right back because Steve Cherundolo and Timmy Chandler weren’t available.
