Depontes’ stippling needle, pencil and watercolor technique creates paper works resembling metal plate etching. “This time consuming technique demands manipulation of selective sections of the design and paper … with enough pressure to leave an indentation similar to Intaglio,” Depontes said. “That in turn creates subtle dimensions, planes, angles and levels, by proximity, depth, size, density, texture, contour, tone, refraction and randomness.”

The center in Hilo is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; from noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. For more information, call 933-0416 or email wailoa@yahoo.com.
