Judge’s ruling
hurts island reefs
The judge made a very poor judgment ruling when she said that the fish collecting didn’t trigger an environmental assessment. All of our island reefs and its inhabitants should be protected from aquarium collectors.
When the tourists comment on how wonderful the snorkeling is at Kahaluu Bay, I always tell them it’s only because the aquarium fish collectors are not allowed to take any of the fish from this bay because it’s a marine habitat and protected by law.
There are other places from which they have been allowed to collect fish, but it was only because at one of our conferences, it was agreed that we had to compromise with the collectors. Still, I really do not like the idea of anyone raping our reefs of fish for their own profits. Ron Tubbs obviously isn’t from our islands because he doesn’t care if our reefs are safe or not, and he has no respect for these beautiful creatures.
I think even for the locals, Kahaluu should be off limits for spearfishing and netting. We have seen throw netters discard the fish that they don’t want out onto the rocks instead of back into the ocean. Such disrespect for life should be outlawed and net throwing banned completely.

It’s not the dog’s
fault, it’s the owners
Well, I knew someone would finally complain about dog beach, and rightfully so, if you didn’t know it was a dog park with all the treats dog owners provide — poop, flies and stink. You see, it is not the dog’s fault, their paws have no thumbs to bag it with, if their owner won’t pick up. It’s not a dog problem, it is a people problem.
We have rude, selfish dog owners who don’t train their dogs and are not knowledgeable or ignore the simple rules and manners of ownership.
Dog poop is litter and litter is a crime. It is also a health issue and an economic issue. When mom has baby in the stroller their little faces are 18 inches above the poop, is that healthy? When tourists step in it on a dawn walk, that’s the memory they talk about when they return and it is not good for business.
We don’t need dog licenses. We need dog parks and licenses for dog ownership that require liability insurance in case of attack or property damage. If you cannot afford it, then you can’t afford a dog.
Not providing a grassy spot for Spot to squat is a slap in the face to all who live here, we should be ashamed.
