Mona Pierson, 72, of Portland, Ore., died April 29, 2013, in Portland. Born in Hilo, she was a retired nurse and volunteer at the Margaret Scott Elementary School in the Reynolds School District in Oregon.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Friends may also call at 5 p.m. June 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. June 8 at Alae Cemetery for a graveside urn committal service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation (scleroderma.org).

She is survived by husband, Robert Pierson of Portland, Ore.; sons, Robert (Marie) Pierson of Broomfield, Colo., Timothy (Heather) Pierson of Puyallup, Wash.; stepfather, Henry Aguiar of Hilo; three grandchildren.
