Nalu Shimizu hit a three-run inside-the-park home run Friday at Honokaa’s Parks and Recreation complex, leading North Hawaii to a 14-8 win over Hamakua in the District 3 minors tournament.
North Hawaii will take on Hilo at 10 a.m. today in the ages 9-10 double-elimination Little League tournament, with the winner playing at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first of two possible championship games.
Trey Gomes hit an two-run inside-the park homer for Hamakua, which will play Kona Coast at 1 p.m. today in an elimination game. The winner of that game will then face the loser of the North Hawaii-Hilo game at 3 p.m. in another elimination game.
In Friday’s other first-round game, Kona Coast beat Hilo 6-4 but forfeited the victory because one of its players did not see action in the contest, leading to a mandatory play violation.
The District 3 champion will advance to the state minors tournament, which takes place June 21-24 on Kauai.
