Waipahu Community School for Adults-Kona campus will offer a six-week beginning Hawaiian olelo class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning June 17 at Kealakehe High School. The cost is $80. A minimum of 12 students is needed for the class.

to speak in Puako
President of the Republic of Palau Tommy Remengesau will share stories about how the island nation is balancing local needs and outside interests, while protecting natural and cultural resources. The free talk is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hokuloa Church in Puako.

One-week sailing camps offered
Big Island Sailing Foundation is offering four one-week sailing day-camps of fun, safe, learning activities.
Beginning dinghy sailing and beach fun for 8- to 12-year-olds will be at Keauhou Bay; the first session runs June 17 to 21, a second session runs June 24 to 28.
There will be two dinghy/keelboat sailing weeks for 10- to 16-year-olds, sailing out of Honokohau Harbor. Novice teens and intermediate sailors older than 10 are welcome to join the July 8 to 12 session. Intermediate sailing and Intro to Racing will be either July 15 to 19 or July 22 to 28, depending on interest.
Day camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Certified instructors and lifeguards lead the shore and sailing programs. No prior sailing experience is required for the June camps, however, participants should be able to swim and be comfortable on the water. Booklets and life jackets are provided. The foundation is a charitable organization and requests a fee of $165 from new sailors, $140 for returning sailors. Scholarships are available.
