Kawaihae Road is closed following a traffic incident near mile markers 63 in the vicinity of Anekona Road in South Kohala.
The Hawaii Police Department reported the closure about 7:15 p.m. The closure is expected to last several hours while crews work to clear the roadway.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. Waikoloa Road can be used to access the lower portion of Kawaihae Road and Akoni Pule Highway. The upper portion of Kawaihae Road can be accessed via Waimea.
