The University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources announces the following free workshops and events in June:
c Food Safety and Good Agricultural Practices Workshop with Luisa Castro from UH CTAHR, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 12, Kona Cooperative Extension Service conference room in Kainaliu. Preregister by emailing Didi at mddiaz@hawaii.edu or call 887-6183.
c Ka‘u Labor Law Workshop with attorney Ted Hong and Legal Shield representative Warren Chong, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 14. Preregister by calling Gina at 322-4892 or email at ginab@hawaii.edu
c Seed Exchange, noon to 3 p.m. June 22 at Tropical Edibles Nursery in Captain Cook. Potluck lunch starts at noon; bring a dish to share. Seed exchange starts at 1:30 p.m.. c The deadline to enter the Mahiai Match-Up Agricultural Business Plan Contest, sponsored by Kamehameha Schools, Ke Alii Pauahi Foundation and Ulu Pono Initiative, is July 1. Mahiai Match-up is a statewide agricultural business plan contest for farmers and entrepreneurs looking to establish an agricultural business in Hawaii. Winners receive an agricultural lease from Kamehameha Schools (rent waived up to five years; winner must pay real property tax during that time) and a cash prize from Ke Alii Pauahi Foundation to help make the winning agricultural business plan a reality.
