Shriners meeting for lunch Tuesday

The Kona Shrine Club meets for lunch at 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday at Lulu’s restaurant on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Club members discuss upcoming events during these informal meetings. All Shriners are welcome to attend.

Vegetarian Thai food lesson slated Tuesday

Abbey Golden will lead a vegetarian Thai food cooking class from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hale Halawai. Participants will make green papaya salad, tofu and onion satays with peanut sauce, and iced melon in coconut milk for dessert. The $15 class fee includes recipes and food tasting.

Groups to present Hanohano lecture

Representatives from the Kaahumanu Society, the Royal Order of Kamehameha, and the Daughters of Hawaii and their Calabash Cousins will speak at a Hanohano o Kona lecture slated from 5:30 to 7 p.m. WEdnesday in Council Chambers, Building A, at the West Hawaii Civic Center. The speakers, scheduled to include Charlene Taketa, Russell Paio and Faye Daniel, will share the history, current programs and future plans of each organization.

Roth to speak at Rotary meeting

Law professor Randall Roth, also a consultant for the movie “The Descendants,” will discuss Hawaii trusts and how they relate to the movie during a Kona Sunrise Rotary meeting slated from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.

Breakfast is served for $10 per person. Rotarians and interested individuals are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Bev Fraser at 936-9965.

Roth will also speak at a North Hawaii Rotary meeting slated for noon Wednesday at Saffron restaurant in Waimea.

Keiki story time slated Wednesday

Kona Stories in Keahou Shopping Center will host a story time for children ages 3 to 10 at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the shopping center courtyard. The story time will feature stories, crafts and snacks based on the character “Skippyjon Jones.”

A $5 participation fee covers crafts and a snack. Check in 10 minutes early at Kona Stories. The American Association of University Women assists with Kona Stories’ keiki story time events. Space is limited to 30 children; reservations are recommended. For more information, call 324-0350.
