Joseph Nicholas Castelli, 86, of Kailua-Kona died May 17, 2013, at his residence. Born March 24, 1927, in Boston, he was a retired advanced engineering specialist for GTE Sylvania, served on the board of directors at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club, was a Kona town historian active in preserving the Hawaiian culture, World War II and Korean War veteran and member of the Kona Historical Society, Kona Hiking Club, St. Michael’s Catholic Church and past director of Pulama Ia Kona.

Friends may call at noon May 28 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church Building Fund,76-5760 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa, HI 96725; or Hospice of Kona. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Dawn Castelli of Kailua-Kona; sons, Michael (Julie) Castelli of Honolulu, Paul (Donna) Castelli of Medford, N.J.; daughters, Claire Castelli of Kailua-Kona, Catherine (Frank) Persello of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; hanai daughter, Mela (Larry Lindsey) Kealoha-Lindsey of Honolulu; sister, Gloria (Tom) Muscenti of Leonardo, N.J.; four grandsons; one great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
