Akira Tanaka, 86, of Hilo died May 9, 2013, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born April 6, 1927, in Wailea, he was a retired supervisor for Hilo Medical Center Radiology Department, Army World War II veteran and member of Taishoji Soto Mission and Kinney Heights Kumiai.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. May 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Miyome Tanaka of Hilo; son, Rodney (Pauline) Tanaka of Hilo; daughters, Christine Wakida and Aileen (Sheldon) Hayashi, both of Hilo; sisters, Betty Abe of Honolulu, Toshiko (Al) Campos of Chicago, Mitzie Shikuma of Hilo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
