Dance and art have always gone hand in hand, but performers from the Prince Dance Institute take the concept one step further with “Dancers at an Exhibition,” slated Saturday and Sunday at Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Gates Performing Arts Center.
Using artwork as inspiration, as Modest Mussorgsky did for his piano composition “Pictures at an Exhibition,” the show features original choreography inspired by famous pieces of art, such as Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and Banksy’s “Balloon Girl.” The show, directed by Angel Prince and narrated by Jay Nelson, combines modern music, contemporary art and original choreography.
Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $20 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children younger than 5. For more information, contact 217-3008 or visit princedanceinstitute.com.
