The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for Big Isle shores through 6 a.m. Saturday.
The service forecast waves ranging in height from 6 feet to 10 feet for the island’s north-, east-, south- and southwest-facing shores. The advisory is the result of a series of south swells expected to impact the island through the weekend. The service anticipates the advisory will be extended beyond Saturday morning.
A high surf advisory means waves along affected shores will be higher than normal, and dangerous rip currents are expected. The service said the surf’s impact should be moderate and urges beachgoers, swimmers and surfers to exercise caution and heed advice given by ocean safety officials.
