He reportedly told friends he was going to set up camp in Waipio Valley and go for a swim. Hawaii Fire Department officials say the man’s campsite was found undisturbed and his clothing was located near the shoreline.

Big Island rescue crews called off their search for a missing swimmer for the night Tuesday and will resume the quest at first light today.

The man, described as being in his 60s, was last seen Monday evening.

He reportedly told friends he was going to set up camp in Waipio Valley and go for a swim. Hawaii Fire Department officials say the man’s campsite was found undisturbed and his clothing was located near the shoreline.

No other trace of the man, who is described as having a large body build, was found.

He was last seen wearing green shorts, fire officials said.
