Fiction and nonfiction book clubs meet monthly at Kona Stories in the Keauhou Shopping Center. Groups meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Club meetings are free and open to the public; there is no attendance requirement. Read the book in advance and be prepared for discussion. The Second Tuesday Fiction Group meets Tuesday to discuss “Me Before You” by Jojo Moyes. Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl who has never been farther afield than her tiny village. The Just the Facts Book Group meets May 28 to discuss “The Swerve — How the World became Modern” by Stephen Greenblatt. Nearly 600 years ago, a man discovered the last surviving manuscript of the ancient Roman philosophical epic, “On the Nature of Things,” and ordered it be copied. The copying and translation of this ancient book fueled the Renaissance, inspiring artists, writers and intellectuals for generations.
Community forum with state legislators slated
A West Hawaii Community Forum sponsored by Community Enterprises is slated Tuesday at the Makaeo Events Pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.; the forum begins at 6.
The forum will include a panel discussion with Hawaii Island Sens. Josh Green and Malama Solomon and Reps. Cindy Evans, Denny Coffman and Nicole Lowen. Legislators will meet with attendees in small groups for follow-up questions and conversations after the panel discussion.
The monthly West Hawaii Community Forums, previously known as Kona Town Meetings, are free and open to the public; light refreshments are provided.

Prostate cancer group meets Wednesday
The Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group meets at noon Wednesday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel’s pool bar. Newly diagnosed and prostate cancer survivors are welcome to attend, share cancer-related issues and lend support to others. The group meets the third Wednesday of each month.
Seniors talent show slated Wednesday
The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. Members will showcase their talents during the Kailua-Kona Seniors Club Talent Show. Residents of Hualalai Elderly are invited to attend.

Perinatal program receives OHA funds
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has provided $400,000 in funding to Family Support Hawaii’s perinatal program. The funds will be used to promote healthy pregnancies and babies in the Malama Perinatal Program for Native Hawaiian mothers.
The program provides information and support for labor and birth; breastfeeding and nutrition; infant and toddler care; women’s health; family planning; and referrals to other services and community resources.

Bertelmann named UH Sea Grant specialist
The Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center at the University of Hawaii at Hilo has partnered with the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program to create a new position focusing on the diverse needs of coastal communities on Hawaii Island. The community is invited to meet the new UH Sea Grant Extension Specialist for Hawaii Island Pelika Bertelmann at a special ReefTalk slated from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park visitor center.
