The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its annual Pualu Awards to recognize individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations which exemplify a commitment to the improvement and advancement of the West Hawaii community.

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its annual Pualu Awards to recognize individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations which exemplify a commitment to the improvement and advancement of the West Hawaii community.

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:

c Community Education: This award honors an individual or organization that promotes and supports education or enrichment programs for personal skills and lifelong learning.

c Environmental Awareness: This award honors an individual or organization that exhibits environmental sensitivity through innovative business practices or programs.

c Business Innovation: This award recognizes a business or organization committed to improving or enhancing employees’ lives, product development, marketing or customer service.

c Lifetime Service: This award honors an individual who has made a lifelong commitment to the community as exemplified by his or her personal and business achievements.

c Culture and Heritage: This award honors an individual or organization whose practices promote island traditions and preserve Hawaii’s multicultural heritage.

c Chamber Member of the Year: This award recognizes the individual who advocates, promotes and supports the mission of KKCC through participation with committees, events, membership and community service.

c Visitor Industry Marketing Award: This award is presented to a person or group whose marketing program has supported and furthered West Hawaii’s visitor industry.

A nomination form is available at kona-kohala.com. For more information, contact the KKCC office at 329-1758. Self-nominations are welcome; names of nominators will not be revealed. Nominations must be received in the KKCC office by 4 p.m. May 24.

Winners will be honored at a luncheon slated June 28 at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.

Mother’s Day
concert planned

Hawaii County Depart-ment of Parks and Recreation, along with the Chamber Orchestra of Kona, is sponsoring a free Mother’s Day concert at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. The free event is slated from 4 to 5:30 p.m. May 12. Bench seating is provided; attendees may bring lawn chairs.

Meditation class offered in Volcano

Participants will experience Buddha’s teachings and practice meditation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. The class is free. For information, call 985-7470.
