c Fresno State 8, Hawaii 6: Trevor Podratz ignited a Rainbow rally with a three-run double in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough as the University of Hawaii baseball team lost on Tuesday night in Fresno, Calif.
Podratz’s big hit capped a four-run inning as the Rainbows (11-31) cut Fresno State’s lead to 7-5. UH brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Adam Hurley struck out with Austin Wobrock on second base to end the game.
Marc Flores and Kalei Hanawahine both had two hits and two runs, and Flores added an RBI as part of UH’s big seventh inning. Podratz equaled career highs in hits (three) and RBIs (four), and Kaeo Aliviado added a pair of hits and a run scored.
Kevin Viers and Aaron Judge both had monster games for the Bulldogs (17-29). Viers had three doubles along with one run and two RBIs, and Judge batted 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs including a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Patrick O’Rourke (0-2) took the loss in his first career start. He faced 12 batters, giving up two runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts. Tyler Linehan (2-7) was given credit for the win despite pitching only three scoreless innings. By rule, a starter must pitch five innings in a nine-inning game and leave with the lead in order to collect the win. Yet, Fresno State’s official scorer gave Linehan the victory.
