Another dump site? Come on, people

It has come to my attention that there is another illegal dump site in Kona. On my way home I noticed, not 50 yards from the Holualoa/Hualalai road junction, a dumping ground containing primarily household plastic items/bottles/small containers and such. I had thought it to be a dry creek bed that accumulated trash but thought twice after looking over the dump site.

As citizens of Kona we can all appreciate the efforts of numerous organizations when they participate in highway cleanup and adoption to keep roadsides clear and clean, but I am saddened every time I see a collection of rubbish, in nature, that an individual(s) has thoughtlessly created. We can do better than the dung beetle.

Education

Veracity of study
in question

Seriously? West Hawaii Today in a front page story quotes the American Legislative Exchange Council regarding education policy?

ALEC is an extremist think tank funded 98 percent by the right wing Koch brothers and multinational corporations. Their only “education” goal is to destroy the public school system and replace it with a for profit system. This is an organization working across the country to restrict Americans’ voting rights, destroy unions and make sure our country has the most well-armed murderers in the world.

Is this who West Hawaii Today gets its information from? I am sure a couple of phone calls would turn up some Hawaiian education experts who are really interested in state schools and not just scamming the taxpayers for profit.
