Nine Big Island temples came together Saturday in Kailua-Kona to share the “Treasures of Hongwanji.”

Nine Big Island temples came together Saturday in Kailua-Kona to share the “Treasures of Hongwanji.”

“Treasures of Hongwanji,” now in its fifth year, provides a time and venue for members of the various Buddhist temples to come together in one place to share their special treasures with the general public, said Mary Katayama of the Kona Hongwanji Mission in Kealakekua.

The event traditionally is held in Hilo, but was moved to Kona to share the treasures with more people, she said.

Among the items on the temples had on display and for sale at the Makaeo Events Pavilion were foods and produce, crafts, plants and flowers, accessories and other goodies. Live entertainment, lucky number drawings and taiko drumming also headlined the event.

Temples present were: Honokaa Hongwanji Mission, Papaaloa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Kamuela Hongwanji Mission, Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, Kona Hongwanji Mission, Honohina Hongwanji Mission and Puna Hongwanji Mission.
