Shriners meet for Tuesday lunch
The Kona Shrine Club meets for lunch at 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday at Lulu’s restaurant on Alii Drive. After an informal meeting, club members discuss Shrine events, including parades. All visiting and resident Shriners are welcome to attend.
Lyman Museum displays feather works
Lyman Museum displays feather work by Lei Hulu of Hilo this spring. In celebration of Lei Day, these gifted cultural practitioners will present an exhibition and daily demonstrations May 1 through 11.
For the past seven years, Doreen Henderson and her students have delighted museum visitors with a colorful display of feather masterpieces such as lei hulu, feather lei, kahili, royal feather standards and uliuli, feather gourds and rattles.
Lyman Museum, 276 Haili St., Hilo, showcases the natural and cultural history of Hawaii. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 935-5021 or visit lymanmuseum.org.
Masons meeting Wednesday
Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center, 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7. Activities begin with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 and then dessert.

Seniors meeting, traveling Wednesday
Kailua-Kona Seniors club members traveling to Hilo Wednesday for the senior talent show should meet at the pre-arranged time and place. Other members will meet at Hale Halawai at 10 a.m. Wednesday for talk story.

Prokopec named May’s Officer of the Month
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee will honor Officer Tyler Prokopec as its officer of the month at noon Wednesday, for his outstanding performance as a member of the Hawaii Police Department.
The committee provides police equipment for use by Kona District officers when department funds cannot support those needs.
Gerald Takase of Hawaii County Liquor Control is the event’s guest speaker.
The public is invited to attend officer of the month luncheons, normally held the first Wednesday of every month. The all-inclusive luncheon at Huggo’s restaurant costs $20. Reservations are required; contact Liz Holey at lholey@hawaii.rr.com or call 443-7708 by Monday.
Senior ID cards available in May
Hawaii County’s Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards to anyone 60 and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kmart in Kailua-Kona.
Cards will also be issued from 9 to 11 a.m. May 6 at Kohala CSE; 9 to 10 a.m. May 13 at Pahala Housing Center; 11 a.m. to noon May 13 at Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. May 14 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea; 9 to 11 a.m. May 20 at St. Jude’s Church in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22 at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.

Tobacco Free Hawaii meeting is Tuesday
