Met’s ‘Julius Caesar’ to be screened Saturday

Hoku Concert Series and Hollywood Theatres present George Frideric Handel’s “Julius Caesar,” directed by David McVicar and featuring Natalie Dessay as Cleopatra, at noon Saturday.

Annual ‘SingSpiration’ slated Saturday

Kona Festivale Chorale announces “Sing for Joy,” its annual “SingSpiration” concert, presented free of charge at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mokuaikaua Church, across Alii Drive from Hulihee Palace in Kailua-Kona.

The Kona Festivale Chorale and its concert ensembles Gloryland and Celebration, under the direction of Carson Wilcox and Roberta King, anchor the event. Guest speakers include the Rev. David Rees-Thomas, Pastor David De Carvalho and the dramatic readings of Jackson Ndecheck of Nigeria.

Representative Christian performing arts ministries include Dan Symonds from India; Samantha Davage of the University of the Nations’ School of Worship; John Burns of St. Juvenaly Orthodox Mission Church; Mokuaikaua Church’s creative arts worship team Hoomana Hana Noeau; and “Red” Johnson, Jo-Anna Boshard and Kalehua Meheula of the Kona Festivale Chorale.

The concert features selections of traditional and contemporary worship and praise music, including the debut of original works.
