Shinichi Kaneshiro, 85, of Hilo died April 11, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 28, 1927, in Hakalau, he was a retired papaya inspector for the state Department of Agriculture, macadamia nut farmer, 50-year volunteer for the National Weather Service Cooperative Weather Observer, member of Hui Okinawa, Hawaii Government Employees Association, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and past member of Young Farmers Association and Hilo Macadamia Nut Association.

Friends may call at 2:30 p.m. April 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 3:30 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, David (Lisa Ann) Kaneshiro and Robert (Kellie) Kaneshiro, both of Hilo; brothers, Sozun Kaneshiro of Kaneohe, Oahu, Albert (Katherine) Kaneshiro of Las Vegas; sisters, Tomiko Yoza of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Kazue (Kingo) Yamada and Sueko (Lawrence) Takenaka, both of Mililani, Oahu; three grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
