Honokaa High will accept applications for its boys and girls varsity basketball head coaching positions.
Applications are available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the school’s main office. Submit completed applications in the main office or the athletic director’s office located in Honokaa Armory. The application deadline is Friday.

Brantley Center golf tourney Sunday
Brantley Center Inc. will host its 34th annual golf tournament at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
The tournament features a two-person, best ball format, and the registration fee of $125 per person includes green fees and lunch. Check-in will be at 6:30 a.m.
Registration forms can be downloaded from the center’s website, thebrantleycenter.org. Golfers must register by Friday to be eligible for the early entry drawing.

Waimea Parks and Recreation softball tournament May 3-5
Teams may register for a Waimea Hawaii County Parks and Recreation coed softball tournament scheduled for May 3-5 at Waimea Park.
The entry fee is $200, and participation is limited to 12 teams. The tournament will benefit athletics in Waimea’s Parks and Recreation division.

Phenom 150
camps May 3-5
The Phenom 150 Hawaii Regional for high school level boys and girls, grades 9-12, is slated for May 3-5 at the St. Francis Schools gymnasium on Oahu.
The registration fee is $199, and each player will receive an Adidas Phenom uniform, four game guarantees, several hours of skill development and informative breakout sessions.
The Regional Camp concept is used around the country by Phenom Basketball to identify players to attend their national camps in the summer. All eligible players must attend a regional camp for evaluation and qualification for an invitation to Nationals. Nationals are well attended by many college level coaches. The camps are intense, informative and competitive to bring out the best in every participant to showcase their skills and talent.

Hawaii Cycling Club time trial May 11
HCC will hold the Upolu Airport training time trial on May 11. The TTT starts at Maluokalani Street in Kawaihae and finishes 16 miles north at the Upolu Airport Road sign.
Registration will be on Maluokalani Street from 7 to 7:40 a.m.. The prerace meeting will be at 7:50 a.m. near the start line. The talk story/aid station will be directly across the road from the finish line.

College-prep basketball camp June 3-7
Hawaii Island Hoops will hold its college-prep basketball camp June 3-7 at the Kekuaokalani Gym. Registration is ongoing. The camp includes Nike SPARQ Training, daily fundamental training workouts, shooting clinics, defensive breakdowns, team offense, individual skills competitions, team tournament and championship game. There will also be a 3-point shootout, free-throw and slam dunk contests, all-star games and awards ceremony.
The camp is open to boys ages 13-19 who are looking to improve their skills and learn a college-style program. The registration fee is $350 and includes instruction from NCAA, NAIA and junior college players and coaches, and evening college-prep seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment. All meals are included in the registration fee.

Mudry on Emily
T. Gail Show
Longtime golf writer Dick Mudry will be a guest on this week’s Emily T. Gail Show, which is available under “lineup” at espnhawaii.com and as an iTunes podcast.
Mudry has covered the PGA and LPGA tours for more than 30 years, and for 10 years he was the writer for the Masters Annual published by Augusta National. He will discuss the recent Masters tournament and the LPGA Lotte championship on Oahu last week.
Gail will share information on the Tommy Bahama seventh annual Big Island Classic to benefit North Hawaii Hospice on June 17.

Beginner golf
classes for women
Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth will offer a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at Makalei Golf Club beginning May 18.
The classes are open to all women interested in the basics of golf. Classes meet five consecutive Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m.

Big Island speed
camp June 6-7
Joshua Abner, the track and field and cross-country coach at Honokaa High, and Rick Hagedorn of Speedburners will host the Big Island Speed Clinic at Konawaena High June 6 and 7.
The clinic will begin at 10 a.m. both days, with clinic-day registration at 9 a.m. June 6.
The cost of the clinic is $100 for both days. Runners who register before May 10 receive a $10 discount.
