ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano denied any involvement with a South Florida clinic under investigation by Major League Baseball after a report linked an associate of his to the facility.
ESPN reported Monday that the spokeswoman for Cano’s foundation is listed as having been a client of Biogenesis of America LLC, a now-closed anti-aging clinic in Coral Gables. She told ESPN she did not receive anything from the clinic and said Cano never did, either.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is among the big leaguers linked to clinic. The Miami New Times reported in January it had obtained files showing Rodriguez bought banned substances from the facility. Rodriguez’s spokesman has denied the allegations in the New Times report.
Before Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay, Cano said he does not feel there is a need to contact Sonia Cruz, the spokeswoman for his foundation.
“It has nothing to do with me,” Cano said. “I’m just going to keep playing my game.”
Cano said he had not seen the report.

Heyward has appendectomy
DENVER — Atlanta Braves right fielder Jason Heyward has had an appendectomy.
The team announced the news late Monday night, long after Atlanta’s game at Colorado was postponed because of snow and rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader Tuesday.
In a two-sentence press release, the Braves say Heyward had surgery Monday night at Rose Medical Center in Denver. There was no indication of how long he might be out of the lineup.
The 23-year-old slugger is off to a slow start this season, batting .121 with two homers and five RBIs. Still, the Braves have a 13-5 record that is tied with the Rockies for the best in baseball.
