Ka‘u Coffee Festival kicks off Saturday
The Ka‘u Coffee Festival starts Saturday and culminates with a hoolaulea May 4 and coffee education May 5. The festival is supported by the Hawaii County Department of Research and Development, Hawaii Tourism Authority and Hawaii Department of Agriculture.
“Simply Elegant,” the second Ka‘u Farmers Table, is planned Saturday at The Inn at Kalaekilohana. The limited seating event features locally sourced food and live entertainment. Advance tickets are $75 at kau-hawaii.com.
The Triple C Recipe Contest will be held Sunday at Ka‘u Coffee Mill, with competition in cookies, candies and crackers made with Ka‘u coffee. Admission and coffee tasting are free; find information at kaucoffeemill.com.

Hannaford speaks
on internalizing peace
A presentation by Carla Hannaford will share research on the true nature of the human species and also provide practical tools for internalizing peace from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel’s ballroom 1.
Hannaford is an award-winning biologist, educator and author of four books who has conducted workshops in more than 45 countries. Her workshops are based on research showing how the heart controls the brain and how people can become peacemakers. The program will also include a “Bridge of Peace” ceremony connecting individuals beyond race, culture and nationality.
Registration and coffee start at 9:30 a.m. The program is followed by a light lunch. The cost is donation only.
